Hey You Smart People
You guys are smart.
You know things.
(Is the flattery working here?)
Time to share your knowledge.
And if you don't know, feel free to ask someone who does, be it your coworkers, neighbors, parents, or favorite barista.
* Have you ever shipped a vehicle? What company do you recommend?
* Have you ever towed a vehicle behind a Uhaul?
* What's the best way to protect your belongings (and possibly the car attached to the Uhaul) while you get some sleep at a hotel?
Planning a cross-country move with 3 vehicles and only 2 drivers is proving dangerous to my sanity.
If you, or anyone within asking distance, can offer some advice, opinions, recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated!!
Three weeks exactly until the big move.
HELP!
Pretty please.

Best advice I can give is find a friend who's willing, and offer them a few dollars to drive your spare car for you, and pay for their flight home.
You need a REALLY good friend to do this, but I think it works out cheaper than paying for it to be shipped.
Failing that, wrap it in brown paper, stick a stamp on it, and leave it outside a post-office.
I think it would be better to use the "tow-Dolly" and tow the vehicle behind the U-haul.
You have to take wider radius turns but it's a lot more inexpensive to do that and take your time than to buy a plane ticket and lodging for someone to drive it.
generally speaking, You shouldn't have to worry about keeping things safe if you stay in reputable loding overnights.
They are pretty good about looking out for your stuff.
Just don't stay anywhere with the name BATES attatched to it for overnighters. And never eat at a place called MOM'S.
REALLY REALLY BAD DECISIONS!!!!!!!
;-)
That should be lodging- not loging.
I mean it should be lodging- not loding.
Oh- I give UP!!!!
We've done both. The first time we hitched a car behind our Uhaul. The biggest advice I can give you for that is to get a couple of big padlocks, one to lock up the back door and one to lock the towing hitch to the truck. And if you stop at night, back your car off the hitch and park it. That makes it much harder to steal (whereas, on the hitch, all they have to do is unhitch and wheel it away). Just lock the hitch to the truck, so you don't wake up in the morning without it (which would make the second half of your trip difficult).
This last time we moved (just last week), my company paid to ship one of our cars out for us. They used a service called Certified Auto Relocators ("CAR" - ha ha). I have no idea how much it cost, and I didn't find them using a quick search on the internet, but they were pretty good. They had several cars to pick up in my general area, and it took them about a week to deliver, but it was just as I left it.
You have three cars? Wow. If it's not too expensive, I would definitely have them shipped. Plus, I can't imagine driving cross-country alone. I'd need my wife with me to keep me awake and relieve the boredom. If you can: ship two, hitch one, and both of you ride up in the cab.
Two cars plus the UHaul truck, that's where the 3 vehicles total comes from.
I've got it. Get a couple of CB radios installed...you got you a CONVOY!! WOOT!
Everybody!
"We got ourselves a convoy, driving through the night. We got ourselves a convoy, ain't it a beautiful sight..Cooooonvooooyyyy!"
Fly yourself out & ask relatives to do all the rest.
