Holy Hot Chick Batman!
Batwoman is a lesbian socialite!As I've said before, I do not know much about the world of comics, but I hope DC does this right. Introducing diverse characters to another area of mainstream entertainment could have positive social influences. (I'm not aware of comics being well-populated with gays and lesbians in the past.) It's already causing debate, and will hopefully prove encouraging.

The other point to make is that if you haven't noticed the subtle homo-erotic this going on between batman and robin...you ain't watching closely enough.
Not that you care but Wikipedia, being generally awesome, has a list of gay/lesbian/bisexual comic characters. Is there anything the Internet can't do?

Especially the 'Adam West' Batman.
I should have stated in my original post that this is the first openly gay character I have heard of. I was not referring to Batman and/or Robin's questionable moments.
I personally have no problem with it--with the small (note the sarcasm) exception of the fact that they're taking a well-known character and ascribing to her a (new, never-before-mentioned) specific trait. It would be different, I think, if they created a new character that also happened to be gay.
