Sure, The Kiddies Are Asleep Already, But I'm Not!
As the midnight hour approaches, and I continue my endless pursuit of the perfect bedtime procrastination activity, I turn to Channel 11 and watch The Simpsons.
Sure, I've seen the episode at least 5 times before, but that's part of the comfort factor. I don't have to really concentrate, just relax into sleep mode. The Simpsons equal bedtime, and that means unwinding from the day, letting my guard down.
So when the commercial comes on for the latest scary movie (Emily Rose anyone?) it pisses me off. I don't want to be frantically pushing the mute button and closing my eyes. I don't want that adrenaline rush, those images in my mind before turning out the lights. I've got enough things vying for attention inside my head, keeping me from falling asleep, without worrying about exorcism, white noise, evil spirits or Britney Spears' baby.
Yes, it's girlie of me to get scared, but I've got a vivid imagination.
I'd just rather use it for something fun at bedtime, that's all.

This question is totally irrelevant but... what episode was it? :)
:op
It doesn't matter what I watch before bed- i almost always have nightmares when i sleep. I think it has something to do with the stress factor in your life. Sleep aid tablets do the same thing to me.
I used to turn on a CD of Chamber music to go to sleep by and it was INCREDIBLY soothing and relaxing. No nightmares either.
I haven't done it lately because Paulius can't go to sleep as easily with music playing.
He's been having a problem with his sleep as well, since my dad has been in hospital and our schedules are so messed up.
Someday all this will be sorted and we will be on a regular(or somewhat regular) routine.
I take it you don't like scary movies? The Exorcist scared the daylights out of me- also The Entity.
Todays movies like that don't leave enough to the imagination for them to be truly scary.
hahaha! I do the exact thing when scary movie ads come on! I can't stand them. Glad to know I'm not the only scaredy-cat!
I used to be absolutely terrified of scary movies, scary books even more.
Then, one day, I watched one...expecting the usual pant-wetting terror and sleepless nights for a month...but it didn't bother me one bit.
Weird, huh? The only movies I find disturbing now are psychological horror. The ones that actively MAKE you use your imagination...imagining what the damn evil presence in the house that you never see actually IS.
Oh, and spiders, nothing to do with spiders is ever going to make an appearance on my TV.
The one where Marge writes a romance :)
Music is always good; I also liked listening to one called Babbling Brook for peaceful dreams!
Yay Ashley - that makes me feel better!
I'm not a big horror movie fan at all, Scream is about the limit for me. And the directors who make you use your imagination? Evil Geniuses they are!
